A deeper look into modern programming languages: why none has 'won'; why they differ; what were they thinking; and how a changed perspective can improve your code and design in any language. This talk will delve deeply into the evolution of your favorite languages; it will be full of surprises, useful knowledge, and a modicum of humor.

Scott Collins has been writing software for nearly 30 years in more languages than necessary. He was a principal engineer on Mozilla at Netscape for over six years. He has contributed to many high profile projects including the Apple Newton, Final Cut Pro, LucasArts' SoundDroid, and Ann Arbor Softworks'FullWrite Professional. He is a frequent speaker on engineering and Open Source topics; and currently works as a software engineer at Slashdot.
